How to Create Your Own Skill

Add a private skill on the My Skills tab so JeremyAI follows your steps for a task you repeat, in all your chats.

A skill is a short playbook JeremyAI follows for one kind of task. JeremyAI already comes with skills, and you can add your own. Write down how you want a job done once, and JeremyAI follows those steps whenever you ask for that job.

Your skills are private. Only you can see and use them, and they work in all your chats.

Before you start

  • Pick one task you repeat often, like debriefing a sales call, reviewing an ad or writing a follow-up.

  • Write down the steps you follow and what a finished result looks like. Rough notes are fine.

  • Keep reference material (transcripts, spreadsheets, long docs) out of the skill. Add those to Knowledge instead.

Step 1: Open My Skills

  1. In the sidebar, open More (it also holds Memories) and click Skills.

  2. The page opens on the Inherited tab, which shows the skills that come with JeremyAI. Click the My Skills tab. That's where yours live.

  3. Click + Add skill. The New skill window opens. The button only shows on My Skills.

Step 2: Fill in the four fields

  • Name: lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens only, up to 64 characters. For example my-call-debrief. Each skill needs its own name, so pick one that isn't already on the Inherited or My Skills tab. Starting it with my- keeps it unique. If you want a name one of your own skills already uses, rename that skill or delete it first if you no longer need it.

  • Description: one sentence that tells JeremyAI when to use this skill. JeremyAI reads it to decide whether your question matches, so describe the situation, not just the topic.

  • Sample query (optional): an example of what you'd type when you want this skill.

  • Body (markdown): the step-by-step playbook. The counter under the box shows how many lines you've used, for example 16 / 200 lines. Shorter skills get followed more completely.

The Create skill button stays greyed out until Name, Description and Body are filled in. Click Create skill. You'll see Skill added to your library, and the skill appears on the My Skills tab with a My library badge and All your chats under Applies to.

Step 3: Test it in a chat

Start a new chat and ask for the task the way you normally would. JeremyAI picks the skill when your question matches its description. To make sure it uses yours, name it:

Use the my-call-debrief skill on these notes: [paste notes]

While JeremyAI works you'll see a Preparing context step. When the answer arrives, click Actions above the reply to see the skill load.

Check that the answer follows your steps and format. If it doesn't, edit the skill (see below) and try again in a new chat.

Or save one from a chat

If you've already worked out a process with JeremyAI in a chat, you can save it as a skill without copying anything. Ask:

Save this as a skill.

JeremyAI shows a Save this as a skill? card marked Private. It lists the skill's name, its description, a sample question under Try asking, and the full playbook. Read it through, then:

  • Click Save to My Skills to keep it. Only you can see it, and it works in all your chats.

  • Click Not now to skip it. Nothing is saved until you choose Save.

Open the My Skills tab to check it's there, then test it in a new chat the same way as in Step 3.

Example you can copy

Here's a complete skill you can paste in and change to fit how you work.

Name: my-call-debrief

Description: Use when I paste notes or a transcript from a sales call and ask for a debrief, a follow-up email or next steps.

Sample query: Debrief this sales call: [paste notes]

Body:

# Sales call debrief
Use this after a sales call when I paste my notes or a transcript.

## Steps
1. Read the notes. If the prospect's name, the offer we discussed or the outcome of the call is missing, ask me before going on.
2. Write a 3-line summary: who they are, what they want, where the deal stands.
3. List every objection they raised, in their words where possible, with one suggested answer for each.
4. Name the single next step. Include a date only if my notes give one.
5. Draft a follow-up email under 120 words that recaps what they want and confirms the next step.

## Output format
Use these headings in this order: Summary, Objections, Next step, Follow-up email.

## Rules
- Don't invent anything that isn't in my notes. Write "Not discussed" when something is missing.
- Keep the email plain and friendly. No hype.

What a good skill looks like

  • One job. A skill that does one task well gets followed more closely than one that tries to cover everything.

  • Numbered steps. Write the steps in the order you want them done.

  • A clear finish. Say exactly what the result should look like, including the headings and their order.

  • Rules for the edge cases. Tell it what to do when information is missing, and what it should never do.

  • Short. A skill can be up to 200 lines and 20 KB. Shorter skills get followed more completely. If yours is long, split it into a few focused skills.

Prompts to help you write one

Not sure how to write the steps? Ask JeremyAI in a chat, then paste the result into Body (markdown) or ask it to save the result as a skill:

Help me write a skill for [task]. Here is how I do it today: [your steps or notes].
Turn it into numbered steps, an output format and a short list of rules. Keep it under 60 lines.

Write a one-sentence description that tells you when to use this skill: [paste the skill].

Edit or delete a skill

  • Edit: on the My Skills tab, click the ⋯ menu next to the skill and choose Edit. The Edit skill window opens. Make your changes and click Save changes, or Cancel to leave it as it was.

  • Delete: click the ⋯ menu and choose Delete. In Delete this skill?, click Delete to confirm, or Cancel to keep it. This can't be undone.

Common mistakes and fixes

  • Create skill stays greyed out: fill in Name, Description and Body. Sample query is optional. The button also stays greyed out while the body is over 200 lines or 20 KB.

  • The name won't save: use only lowercase letters, numbers and single hyphens, with no spaces, and don't start or end with a hyphen.

  • JeremyAI doesn't use the skill: name the skill in your message, or make the description say when to use it, for example Use when I paste notes from a sales call.

  • It says a skill with that name already exists in your library: pick a different name, for example one that starts with my-. If one of your own skills already uses that name, rename or delete it first.

  • Saving from a chat didn't work: a skill with that name may already exist. Ask JeremyAI to save it under a different name, for example one that starts with my-, then check the My Skills tab.

  • The body is too long: split it into two skills, and move reference material to Knowledge.

  • You can't find + Add skill: the page opens on Inherited. Switch to the My Skills tab. The button only shows there.

Still stuck?

Email [email protected] with the skill name, what you asked, what you expected and what happened instead. Include a screenshot if you can, with anything private hidden.
